Clara Myrle Morton Martin, 92, of Long View, died Sept. 1, 2001, at Flesher’s Fairview Nursing Home in Asheville.

Born June 10, 1909, in Tellico Plains, Tenn,. she was a daughter of the late Guy and Beatrice Sledge Morton.

A member of Hickory Seventh Day Adventist Church, she was a deaconess and Dorcus leader and taught in the children’s department. Employed by the Hickory Antique Store, she was a volunteer for the ladies auxillary at Frye Regional Memorial Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Schuler B. Martin; and a sister, Alice Frye.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Norman L. and Wilma Kennedy Mason of Fairview; three daughters, Eva Jo Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn., Geneva Curtis of Athens, Tenn., and Alma Benedict of Port Orange, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Ken Ford at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catawba Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Curtis, Stephen Smith, C.J. Mason, Carl King, Jeff Martin and Jody Gipson.
