Amanda Lovenia Moore met John J. McCray Blackwell during the Civil War and they married in October, 1874. Amanda delivered mail to the Confederate troops by horseback and met John in this way. She fell off of a horse while delivering mail and broke her leg which was amputated, and thus finished her career as a mail carrier. John and Amanda Blackwell had five sons and three daughters named John Author, Mary Janett (Net), Claude F., Mittie, Grover Cleveland, George Edward, William Buckelew "Cowboy", and Laura Lovenia "Lola".
