My great grandmother, Amanda Lovenia Moore, was the youngest daughter of Allen Moore and Mary Nanceye Tisdale Moore. Amanda Lovenia Moore met John J. McCray Blackwell during the Civil War and they married in October, 1874. Amanda delivered mail to the Confederate troops by horseback and met John in this way. She fell off of a horse while delivering mail and broke her leg which was amputated, and thus finished her career as a mail carrier.
