Accidental Pistol Discharge Fatal to Constable P. C. Wilson
Accident Occurs While Mr. Wilson is Pushing Car out of Mud Hole It had Stuck P.C. Wilson, a well known citizen of Mecca community was accidentally killed Tuesday morning. Mr. Wilson, who was constable of Precinct No 3 of Madison County, was going to Madisonville with his daughter Mrs. Tyler Hicks. In Caney Creek bottom the car stuck in the mud. Mr. Wilson got out to push, assisted by a negro man, while Mrs. Hicks drove the car. As they were pushing the car Mr. Wilson's pistol slipped out of the scabbard and struck on the car fender, discharging it. The ball struck him in the right side, ranging upward. Clyde Batson and Hugh Hannah came along and took him to Madisonville for treatment, but he died soon after arriving there.
Mr. Wilson, "Portervine" as he was generally known; was about 52 years of age, and had lived most of his life in the High Prairie and Mecca communities of Madison County. He was a good man, a well respected citizen and one whom his neighbors could trust, and they honored him with local office.
He was a member of the High Prairie Baptist Church, and was laid to rest in the High Prairie Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon. He leaves a wife and two children, Mrs. Eula Hicks and Henry A. Wilson of Normangee. His aged mother who survives him.
