On August 16, 1926, in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, "Cootie" married Robert Ceals Moon. To them where born two daughters: Althea Ceals and Mary Nell. In 1938 Robert traveled to Miami searching for work. He died unexpectedly there in the Jackson Memorial Hospital of botched dental work that same year. "Cootie" moved in with her divorced sister Mrs. Ethel Mae Ponce Pitzke in Jacksonville, Fla. (1940 Federal Census) Times where tough with the first Great Depression, so, the girls where farmed out to a convent. In 1940 St. Johns Co, Fla., she remarried to Wilfred William "Bill" Jaudon.

Althea Bluebell Ponce was known affectionately as Grandma Cootie or just Cootie. Grandma Cootie was only about 5 feet tall but her spirit made her seem 10 feet. She loved salt-water fishing. There are many tales of her standing in chest deep water, in the pounding surf, casting for Whites and Drum, then cooking them with grits and a big pot of steaming coffee. Cootie was an excellent cook and loved to feed the family. She died after having several severe strokes, each one nearly taking her courageous life. Her already weak body succumbed to a massive heart attack that ended the life of what was a greatly spirited and strong-willed woman. She is missed by all who where privileged to know her.

"Cootie" and Robert Moon are my husband's maternal grandparents.
