William "Bill" Barnes, Farmer Of Southeast Of Edina, Died Suddenly On Street

William Henry Barnes, a farmer of 5 1/2 miles southeast of Edina who was better known as "Bill" Barnes, died unexpectedly, although he had been under a doctor's care for some time, near the Fessler Chevrolet Company in Edina about 11:30 o'clock yesterday morning, Dec. 2, 1964. He was 79 years old and had been a resident of Knox County for 50 years.

The body is at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina where it will be in state. He is a member of the Assembly of God Church in Edina where funeral services will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon with the Rev. E. E. Hembree, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Harmony Cemetery south of Edina.

He is survived by two sons, Raymond Barnes of near Edina and Billie Barnes of Highland Park, Mich.; four daughters, Mable, Mrs. Robert Culler, of Hurdland, Irene, Mrs. Edward Spray, of Greentop, Eva, Mrs. Hollie Hatfield, of Knox City, and Velma, Mrs. Carl Dabney, of Quincy; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Homer, Jim, Albert and Arthur Barnes, all of near Baring, and Leslie Barnes of near Rutledge; three sisters, Zola, Mrs. Lester Weaver, near Edina, Goldie, Mrs. B. L. Morrow, of Hurdland, and Mrs. Nellie Harris of Kirksville, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Barnes was one of eleven children of Charles Henry and Mary Rosetta Kirkpatrick Barnes who spent the greater part of their more that 70 years of married life in the Pleasant Ridge vicinity northwest of Baring. He was married to Pearl B. Weaver at Kirksville Nov. 11, 1911, and she died Sept. 18, 1960. They were the parents of eight children, those mentioned above, and a daughter, Marie, and a son, William, Jr., who preceded their parents in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hodges, and a brother, Walter, who died in infancy.
