Henry was the son of RAdm. William Mervine and Amanda Maria Crane

Served in the Civil War
Enlisted as a Private on 18 August 1862 in Medina, NY at the age of 40. He served in the 17th Light Artillery Battery New York from 26 August 1862 until he mustered out on 12 June 1865 in Richmond, VA. He served as a private throughout the war.

Henry Gird Mervine died at his home on Seneca Avenue Thursday afternoon, of a severe attack of pneumonia. He was about 74 years of age and had but recently removed here from Syracuse with his family consisting of a daughter and a granddaughter. The remains will be taken to Syracuse Sunday. The services will be held at the chapel in Oakwood cemetery.
