Philip grew up in Richfield, Wisconsin, where his parents settled after emigrating from Germany when he was six years old. He then moved to Black Hawk county, Iowa, where he married Fredericka Mueller (also shown as Miller). They had two children, John and Rachel. Rachel died at the age of six months, and 4 1/2 years later, his wife died.

Not long after Rieke's death, he met Augusta Patzig Blank, whose husband had been killed in the Civil War. She had a son, Charles Blank. They married. After the birth of their fourth child, they moved to LeMars, Iowa in Plymouth county. He farmed there and later opened a grocery store and a furniture store.

A newspaper article shown on the left describes a family reunion in which his daughter Katie and her husband James Junkin were going to return to Colorado. Years later, Katie died and Philip's other daughter, Elizabeth, went to Pennsylvania to help out her brother-in-law with his three children. She later became his 3rd wife.
*The existence of two other children, Heinrich, born 1882, and Philip Jr., born 1883, were unknown until Katie Junkin's Bible pages were made available to this contributor.

LeMars Sentinel May 24, 1912 Obituary

Philip Fluck, a vanguard of Plymouth county old settlers, passed away at his home on Wednesday night at the age of 75 years. Mr. Fluck had been suffering from strangulated hernia and on Tuesday underwent an operation for relief as his condition was dangerous and the operation deemed imperative.

Mr. Fluck was a native of Germany and was born in Hesse Darmstadt on October 12, 1836. When five years old, his parents immigrated to America and shortly after settled in Richfield, Wisconsin. Here he passed his boyhood and grew to a man's estate among the hardy pioneers of the West.

In 1859 he was united in marriage with Rieke (Fredericka) Miller (probably the americanized version of Mueller). In 1861, a son, John, was born. In 1866 they moved from Wisconsin to Black Hawk county Iowa. A daughter, Rachael E., was born in April, 1863. She died six months later. Five years later, Rieke died. Mother and daughter are buried together in Anton Cemetery.

He was united in marriage with Augusta Patzig Blank, a widow, in 1868. She had one son, Charles Blank.

In 1874, Mr. Fluck with his family came to Plymouth county and settled on a farm in Stanton Township, where they lived until 1887 when the family moved to this city, which has been its home since.

On coming to LeMars, Mr. Fluck engaged in the furniture business and subsequently conducted a grocery store. For the last few years he had retired from active business life.

He leaves a large family to mourn his death, John of Buffalo Lake MN, Louis of Sioux City, William of Independence, Mrs. Gahn (Kate ZAHN) of Hartley, George of Latelle WA, Miss Lizzie Fluck of LeMars. A son, Philip, is somewhere in the West, but his relatives have not heard anything from him of late and his present address is unknown. A stepson, Charles Blank, lives at Latelle WA.

The funeral services will be held at the late residence on Washington Street at 9:15 tomorrow morning proceeding from there to the Emanuel Evangelical church. Rev. D. C. Hauck and Rev. Schmalle officiating.

The interment will be made at the United Evangelical burying ground in Stanton, where the remains will be placed beside those of his wife, whose body lies buried there.

Mr. Fluck was a familiar figure on the streets of LeMars for many years. He had a wide acquaintance and many old friends will miss him. He was a good husband and father, an upright citizen and a man who enjoyed the esteem and respect of a large circle of people.
