This writer has been unable to determine the correct spelling of the maiden name of Sarah Shupp, or what her parents' names were.

Her son's death certificate spells her maiden name as Sarah Auken and states she was born in Pennsylvania. The death certificate of her daughter Mary (Shupp) Wenrick spells Sarah's last name as Ockey. A relative spells it Ache.

Sarah was married to John Shupp on August 16, 1842 at the First Reformed Church in Reading, Pennsylvania, by Rev. William Pauli. John had previously been married to Maria Kachel (1821-1838) and had a son Henry Shupp born in 1838, after which Maria died.

John and Sarah had the following known children:

Mary (Shupp) Wenrick 1842-1916
Elizabeth Shupp 1846-
Jacob Shupp 1849-
John Shupp, Jr. 1856-
Sarah Shupp 1858-

In the 1860 census, John and Sarah Shupp were living in East Cocalico Township of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (post office Reamstown) with 6 children:

John Shupp 44
Sarah Shupp 44
Henry Shupp 21
Mary Shupp 17
Elizabeth Shupp 14
Jacob Shupp 11
John Shupp 4
Sarah Shupp 2

By 1870 John and Sarah Shupp had moved to Macon County, Missouri, and two children were left at home, Elizabeth 22, and John 16. It appears that the youngest child, Sarah, who would have only been about 12 in 1870, must have died, as she is not in the 1870 census.

In 1880 in Macon County, Missouri, John and Sarah were both 64 years old and two of their children were living with them, Jacob 28, and John 23.

In the 1900 census of Macon County, Missouri, Sarah Shupp, age 84, was widowed and living with her son John, Jr. 44 and his wife Jennie 39.

Both John, Sr. and Sarah Shupp are buried in Hopewell Cemetery, as well as their son John, Jr. and his wife Jennie.
