John Shupp, Sr.'s lineage probably goes back to Germany when the sirname was spelled Schupp. But, this writer has been unable to find for sure who his parents were. Several family trees on Ancestry.com show he was the son of John George Shupp and Anna Maria (Yeager) who migraated from Pennsylvania to Ohio and are buried there. See note at the end of this memorial from a relative who states that John was the son of Daniel Shupp and Elizabeth (Steffee).
John Shupp was born in Pennsylvania and was married twice. He first married Maria Kachel in 1837 and she died after the birth of their first child:

John then married Sarah Ache/Aukah/Ockey in 1842. According to the death certificate of their son, John Shupp, Jr., his mother's maiden name was Sarah Aukah. Their daughter Mary (Shupp) Wenrick's death certificate spells her mother's maiden name as Ockey. Both maiden names sound similar, but this writer does not know which spelling is correct. The relative mentioned above states that Sarah's maiden name was spelled Ache.

Alleghenyiville Church shows John was born September 2, 1816 in Brecknock, West Cocalico Twp, PA to Daniel and Elizabeth (Steffee) Shupp/Schupp. Sarah was John's second wife. His first wife Maria Kachel 1821-1838 who died 9 days after giving birth to son Henry. John & Maria were married December 26, 1837 at First Reformed Church, Reading, PA, by Rev. William Pauli. Maria is buried at Swamp Cemetery, Cocalico Twp, PA. I show the following children born to them in Pennsylvania, Maria 1842, Elizabeth 1845, Evsy 1847 and Jacob 1849. I believe that they had a son William Henry born to them in Missouri in 1850. William went off on his own by 1870 and lived in Colorado and later New Mexico where he is buried.
