Mrs. Vernie Knight
Dies Unexpectedly
Mrs. Vernie Knight, 74, 107 South Fourteenth, died in her sleep yesterday morning at her home. She had been ill several months, but apparently was much improved.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with the Reverend Valerian Berger, officiating. The rosary will be tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Harouff-Buis Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Mrs. Knight was born July 22, 1886, at Fulton, Missouri. She was the former Vernie Andris.
She and Joseph Allen Knight were married March 7, 1908, at Fulton. They moved to Atchison from Leavenworth in 1944. Mr. Knight died a year ago yesterday.
Mrs. Knight worked as housekeeper for Father Valerian at the Sacred Heart rectory until she became ill. Mr. Knight worked at the Wilson Packing Company here until he retired.
She was a member of the church altar society and the Legion of Mary.
Mrs. Knight leaves three children, James Edward Knight [This is incorrect. Vernie and Allie's son's name is actually Joseph] of Leavenworth, Mrs. Robert (Adeline) Doub of Auburn, California, and Mrs. Earl (Mona) Ballard of Killeen, Texas; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister.
Friends may call at the funeral home any time after 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
