Wilma Mae Schiska, 83, of Pierce City, Mo., died on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.

Mrs. Schiska was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Wentworth, Mo., to Tony and Anna Jasumback Fenske. She was a graduate of Pierce City High School and a lifelong resident of the town. Wilma loved to cook and garden, enjoy time with family and loved to visit with all her friends. She was co-owner with her husband of Schiska's Store; a clothing and shoe store in Pierce City, and also worked several years at Sarajo Manufacturing and Dollar General. She married Joseph P. Schiska Jr., on May 4, 1948. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1987.

Her sisters, Emma King and Florence Ockerby; and brother, Eugene Fenske, also preceded her in death. Wilma is survived by two sons, Ed Schiska and wife, Susie and Alan Schiska and wife, Lori; a daughter, Saundra Bowen and husband, Ron; four grandchildren, Missi, Amy, Jennifer and Chris; three great-grandchildren, Terry, Nick and Ronnie; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City with the Rev. Peter Morciniec officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City. The casket will remain closed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund or St. John's Palliative Care Foundation in Joplin.
