Othniel Jewett was born in East Berkshire,
Franklin county, Vermont, August 14
1812, and died at his home west of town
Feb 11,1897. aged 84 yeas, 5 months and
26 days. He with his father's family,
emigrated to Franklin county, Ohio, in
1814. He was united in marriage to Catharine
Jewett September 28, 1834. To them were
born 6 children one of whom still lives.
On March 24 1860 he was married to Joanna
Johns. To them were born five children,
all of whom survive He came to Union County,
Ohio in 1852, where he resided until death.
He was respected and honored by all who
knew him and was noted for honor, probity,
uprightness and truth. But one sister survive
him. He also leaves six children and seven
grand-children. The funeral occurred the
house last Thursday, conducted by Rev. Hill
of West Mansfield, after which the remains
were conveyed to Beechgrove cemetery and
all that was mortal of our dear old father
and friend was consigned to the narrow
limits of the grave.
