Services for Almon F. Mathews, 80, Moyie Springs resident who died at the local hospital last Wednesday, were held last Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Whitney Funeral Home. Rev. N.C. Christensen officiated. Interment was made on Monday at Great Falls, Mont., where brief graveside services were conducted.
Mrs. Ferne Crowley provided organ music for the local services and Bill Brazier sang two hymns, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Jesus Lover of My Soul."
Mr. Mathews was born at Lowellville, Ohio, August 13, 1873. As a child of two he went to live with the James Stewart family at Paynes Corners, Ohio, and in 1896 he moved to Kingsville, Ohio, where he married Nettie A. Walker on December 23, 1896.
After working at Kingsville and Conneaut for a time, Mr. Mathews moved his family to Everson, Mont. He worked there until 1910, chiefly as a steam engineer, before moving to Coffee Creek, Mont., where he took up a homestead and engaged in farming until 1941. At that time he and Mrs. Mathews moved to Bonners Ferry and he worked at the Moyie Springs sawmill and on his ranch until his death.
In addition to his widow, Nettie A. Mathews, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Laura Skelton, Bonners Ferry; Mrs. Pearl Metrovich, Coffee Creek, Mont., and Mrs. Martha Morice, Moyie Springs. He also leaves nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Out-of-town relatives who attended the services here included Mrs. Metrovich, Mrs. Bill Reilly, Coffee Creek, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Metrovich, Stanford, Mont.; Miss Annabelle Morice, Deaconess hospital, Spokane; Stewart Akerly, Coffee Creek; Abe Aarrestad, Kalispell, Mont.; and Edwin Lewis, Stevensville, Mont.
