Myrtle Dempster was the youngest of seven children born to Robert J. Dempster (1858-1927) and his second wife Jerusha Joanna Stearns (1858-1946), of Mecklenburg Co., NC, later of Union Co., then Pageland, SC. She lived for a time with her sister, Margaret A. Dempster (1886-1969, Mrs. Samuel B. Tye) in Greensboro, where she met and married Arnold Grant Neese (1895-1969) in 1926. They lived in Greensboro, where Arnold was a real estate broker. They had four children, Bill, Sam, Margaret and Mary Jane.

From a newspaper article in Greensboro, 1926:

"MISS DEMPSTER AND A. G. NEESE ARE WED
Ceremony Sunday Afternoon at First Christian Church
Leave On Trip to North

"Miss Myrtle Dempster and A. G. Neese were united in marriage Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Christian church, Rev. H. P. Marley, pastor of the church, officiating. A few close friends of the couple accompanied them. The ceremony was a simple but impressive one.

"The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Dempster, of Pageland, S. C. She has made her home here for several years with her sister, Mrs. Sam Tye, on Scott avenue. She is a young woman of charm and beauty, with a large number of friends, attracted by her many fine qualities. Mr. Neese is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Neese, of Swepsonville. He has lived here for several years and is with the Greensboro Music company. Immediately following the ceremony, the couple left for Richmond, Washington and other points north. After a trip of about ten days, they will be at home in the Reed Apartments, on South Mendenhall street."
