Obituary.

J.J. Casey was born November 12th, 1825, near Cincinnati, Ohio, and died June 13th, 1899 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.F. Akins, 505 West Eighth, Winfield, aged 73 years, 7 months and 1 day. He was buried at Udall, June 15th, the Rev. W.T. Adams conducting the exercises. August 12th, 1850 the deceased was married to Miss Martha M. Tullis and eleven children, five sons and six daughters resulted from this union, four of whom are dead.

In 1858 he moved to Fulton county, Illinois, later moving in Macdonough and Hancock counties. He moved to Nodaway county, Missouri, in the fall of 1880 and to Adair county, Iowa, in 1882, living there until February, 1893, when he moved to Cowley county. He lived on a farm until the fall of 1897 when he purchased property in Winfield and moved his family here.

Lately he traded his property here for a farm near Rock to which he moved a short time ago. The day prior to his last illness he came to Winfield and complained of feeling unwell. He was prevailed on to remain a day or two on account of being convenient to medical assistance and Mr. Atkins went after Mrs. Casey. His wife and all his children but two were with him at the last.

He was a member of the Christian church, proud of his honor and universally liked. He made many warm friends during his residence in this county and he was known here only to be respected and admired for his sterling integrity, Christian character and upright life.
