Andrew Jackson Bass was the son of James M. Bass and Harriett Scott, and the grandson of John Bass and Crecy Hutchinson, all of Laurens County, GA.

He married Augustus "Gussie" McDaniel on 15 Aug 1894 in Laurens Co., GA.

Together they had the following children:
Bertha Ophelia Bass Lemoine
William Byne Bass
Edward Burch Bass
Madge Lynn Bass
Thelma Hattie Lou Bass McLaughlin Garcia
Clifford Clarence Bass
James Thomas "Jack" Bass

He served in the Spanish American War, enlisting on June 10 1898 in Macon, GA in the U.S. Volunteer Infantry and was discharged on May 2, 1899 in Macon, GA, Corporal. Cause of discharge was "muster out". He died in the Mountain Branch of the National Home for Diasbled Volunteer Sodiers in Johnson CIty, Washington Co., TN. He had been admitted to the home as early as March 1925. This was a state of the art facility and touted many amenities and nearby tourist attractions.

The records in the Soldiers Home show his height as 5' 7 1/2 ", fair complexion, gray eyes, auburn hair, can read and write, protestant religion, occupation is engineer, married, wife (Mrs. Bessie Bass - an error as her name was Gussie) lives in Osceola, FL

His pension rate was $24. Pension Claim # 119869

Cause of death was Hemiplegia right side. Since this is usually caused by a stroke, I can only assume that he had a stroke in 1925 and this is what created the need for him to be admitted to a home as at 52 years old.
