The family moved sometime between 1850 and 1860 from Berne Township, Fairfield County to Liberty Township, Hancock County.

George was a noted farmer and furniture maker. He made the cherry chest of drawers and its detachable book-case possessed by Sarah (Swartz) Miller. He also made the solid walnut breakfast table owned by Orvo M. Swartz.

George was born two years earlier than Abraham Lincoln.

Both George and his wife, Mary, died on the farm northwest of Findlay, Ohio.
