Nellie was born on January 25, 1921, a daughter of the late Ivan Louis Boitnott and Essie Rebecca Cummings Boitnott.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Russell Thomas Boitnott and Howard Wesley Boitnott.
She was a lifelong member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren where she was active as long as her health permitted.
Nellie is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Joseph (Jack) Ferguson; her two children, Dr. John Elvin Ferguson and his wife, Dr. Kristi Jo Martinson Ferguson, of Iowa City, Iowa, and their two children, Nathan Joseph Ferguson and Andrew James Ferguson; and son, Jerry Lynn Ferguson and his wife, Jacklin Ann Wakefield Ferguson, of Rocky Mount, and their two children, Jerry Lynn Ferguson Jr. from San Antonio, Texas, and Wendy Michelle Ferguson Grider and her husband, John Thomas Grider II, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and their child, John Thomas Grider III. She is also survived by her brother, James Christopher Boitnott, of Nashville, Tenn.; and sisterin-law, Jacqueline Feazell Boitnott.
Nellie was a beautiful daughter, loving wife and mother, outstanding grandmother, and even better great-grandmother.
She will be missed terribly. Special thanks to Wanda Hodges, Liz Taylor and Thelma Preston for their special care of Nellie.
Funeral services will be conducted from Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2010, with Pastor Bruce Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you give a donation to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 2363 Brick Church Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010, at Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, Rocky Mount, Va.
