SALEM, Va. — Katherine Mae Collier, 81 of Salem, died at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday June 22, 2010 in Woodhaven Nursing Home at Montvale, Va., following a long illness.

Born December 13, 1928 at Cunard, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Silas and Mintie Buckland Cox.

Ms. Collier was a retired employee of the Texaco Corporation and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem, Va.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Mona Cox and eleven brothers and sisters, including Nila Hicks of Hinton.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Harry S. Collier; one son, Harry S. Collier Jr. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one daughter, Sandra M. Grimmett of Oregon, Ohio; one sister, Virginia Buckland of Hinton; half-brother, Calvin Cox of Hinton; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday June 25, 2010 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Ivey Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery on Powleys Creek.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Jack Cales, Jim Grimmett, Jim Allen, Roger Cox and Keith and Leslie Feazelle.
