Seeking data on Sarah Rebecca Crawford McChesney. It is believed by some that she married widower James McChesney, Sr., who had 7-8 children with his first wife, Sarah Patterson OR his son, James McChesney, Jr. Seek documentation so we have the correct spouse.

She had McChesney children:

Mary "Polly," ~1776 (Wm Steele), below

Betsy Anna, (Robt Hunter),

Martha Patsy (Jno Patton Montgomery),

George, d bef Jan 1789 (in his grandfather Patrick's will)

Sarah, (Wm Moffett, son of Col. George)

Nancy, (sister in James Jr.'s 1813 will)

Margaret, (sister in James Jr.'s 1813 will)

Rebecca Crawford, "24" Jun 1794 (James Enfield Berry, TN) below

Did she ever have "Wilcox" in her name?

Crawford/McChesney connections:

Paragraph about POSSIBLE parents Patrick Crawford (and Sarah Willson): "In regard to several of his daughters, much confusion and uncertainty exists. Elizabeth, the oldest child, and wife of Alexander Robinson, is said to have been born Oct. 18, 1751, although the Rev. John Craig baptized Martha, daughter of Patrick Crawford, in Nov. 1748. The probability is that this child, Martha, died in infancy and that another born later was called by the same name. The next daughter Margaret, or Peggy, was the first wife of her cousin, John Crawford, of North Mountain. One DAUGHTER is said to have married a McCHESNEY, - her father refers in his will to his GRANDSON, GEORGE McCHESNEY. Another daughter, Sarah, married Robert Crawford. Martha, born May 10, 1761, was the second wife of Colonel Andrew Anderson; Mary, or Polly, the youngest daughter, was the wife of James Crawford...." Joseph Addison Waddell's Annals of Augusta County, Virginia, 1726-1871, Staunton, VA, 1902, has data on the Crawford family, p 205-209.

Hoping DNA can help straighten this family out.

James McChesney is appointed guardian of Patrick Crawford's son George, under 14 years of age, in Oct 1788, Augusta County, Virginia court.

Adam McChesney, was the son of James McChesney and his first wife Sarah Patterson. His Augusta Co., VA Will Book 11, page 168, dated 12th December, 1811. "To sister, Sally (now Sally Moffett), the legacy she fell heir to by her grandfather's (Patrick Crawford's) will." Sally was his half sister. Daughter Sally McChesney married William Moffett, the son of Col. George Moffett and Sarah Martha McDowell, on 23 Dec 1806 in Augusta Co., VA (Wm Moffette/Salley McChesney, Presbyterian, Bethel & Windy Cove Churches, line 1500, Augusta Co. VA Marriage Register).

2010 site creator with the help of Faith stated: Old Providence Cemetery records indicate death before 1784, so this would not have been Mrs. Sarah Crawford Crawford.

I did not locate her burial in Dorothy Lee Weaver's book, Here Lyeth, Tombstone Inscriptions of most Cemeteries in Riverheads District of Southern Augusta County and Staunton, 2nd Edition, Jun 1987. Diane of Rader Farm used the old church records in addition to this source to add burials here.
