Services for Mr. Ray R. (NANDAD)Allen will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria, with the Reverends Jim Hilleke and David Boothe officiating. Interment will be in Alexandria Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Brent Devenney, Chad Devenney, Mason Wiley, Richard Moriarty, Freddie Williams and Earl Sandifer.

Mr. Ray R. Allen, 89, of Alexandria, passed from this life Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Allen was educated in Alexandria Business College and LaSalle Extension University, majoring in Accounting. After service in the United States Air Force, he returned to Alexandria as a city service accountant. He was an accountant, secretary treasurer and finance director for the City of Alexandria during the Administrations of Mayors Carl Close, George Bowden, Ed Karst, John Snyder and Carroll Lanier. Upon retirement from the city in 1979, he was with First Bank for 10 years, retiring as an officer of that Bank. Five years prior to completely retiring, he was an accountant with Petron, Inc.,

He was a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, Alexandria and had served as past master of Alexandria Lodge #398, F & AM.

His wife, Lily Hinds Allen; his parents, Frank F. and Martha Walker Allen; and his sister, Sallie Smith, precede him in death.

Mr. Ray R. Allen leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Gale Henry and husband Charles, of Monroe, and Debbie Poirrier of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Brent Devenney and wife Lori, Chad Devenney and wife Amy, Mason Wiley and Melissa Wiley Bergeron and Husband Tommy; great grandchildren, Kaitlin, Carter, Ryan, Landon, and Laurel Devenney and Sara and Samantha Bergeron; and a host of other family members and friends.

The family asks that friends call from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.
