Helen died at the age of 25 while undergoing experimental surgery for her congenital heart disease--she was a "blue baby"(a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot)--at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She contributed to the advances that make possible today's heart surgery for such conditions as hers. Her niece Catherine CAPPA CUMMINGS said that Drs. Blalock & Taussig, both pioneers of cardiac surgery, operated on her. At the time of her death, her residence was listed as 215 Locust Street, Easton, MD. Her obituary states that she was buried at Springhill Cemetery, but there is no marker. Easton Star Democrat Fri 14 May 1946, died Tues 13 May in Baltimore, funeral services at Clark's Funeral Parlors, Thurs 15 May, Rev. Raymond H. GAMBLE in charge of the services, interment Spring Hill Cemetery.
