Major William Harvey Craig (retired U.S. Army), 86, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at the Ford Memorial Chapel, First Baptist Church, with the Rev. John H. Ballard officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Bill was born May 23, 1917, in Alanreed, Texas, to the late Willard and Harriett Craig. He graduated from Alanreed High School and later enlisted in the armed services. He married Norma Jean Pieper on Oct. 17, 1961, in Alamogordo, N.M. She died Feb. 7, 2002. During his military career, he served in Burma, Germany, Formosa and Pakistan. While in Pakistan he was assigned to the U.S. Diplomatic Corps. Upon retirement in 1965, he and his wife, Norma, moved to Lubbock. He was employed by the Paul Graham Company and was a founding member of the Men's Downtown Bible Class. Bill was also involved in various volunteer organizations, primari ly Meals on Wheels and the Lakeside Auxiliary. Together, Norma and Bill contributed more than 50 years of volunteer service. Bill was preceded in death also by two brothers, Ned B. Craig and Billy James Craig.

He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Maselle Craig of Lubbock and Georgia Craig of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; two nieces, Donna Barry of Denver, Colo., and Jean Murph of Euless, Texas; a nephew, Kent Craig of Lubbock; and neighbors, Dottie and Charlie Lusher, and Tom, Patsy, Krisha and Caprice Tabor.
