Captain Phineas WALKER

Birth: 20 AUG 1722 in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Middlesex County

Death: 16 OCT 1792 in Sudbury, Massachusetts, Middlesex County of Apoplexy

"was an officer in the Revolutionary Army, came to Rutland from Sudbury where some of the children were born. The house built by him is a fine

specimen of the old Colonial mansion, and well repays a visit. It is now the property of the State of Massachusetts, and will be used for the residence of the Superintendent of the Prison Reservation. The famous old elm, planted by him, is now carefully guarded by the State from further damage by wind or ice. Capt. Walker and wife were admitted to the church soon after their arrival in Rutland, and although four miles from the place of worship, were rarely absent, summer or winter. The children of Daniel and Sibbelah Roper were all born in this house, and it continued to be the house of Lydia and Reuben through life
