Aunt Doris's middle name 'Olive' fit her very well. Olive in the "Popeye" cartoons was thin as was Aunt Doris. Doris & her older sister Eunice both married brothers, Eunice married Roy and Doris married Nolan, nicknamed O'lie, thus their children were double cousins. Doris's first child Leonard Nolan Sartain, lived 13 days, and at age 24, with four children, and expecting her sixth child, found herself without a husband, when O'lie, age 32, was stabbed to death. Her family helped her immensely by many of her kinfolks taking in one child for about a year & a half.

On 22 Oct 1947, Doris married Oscar Tate, who had two children & they merged their two families into one with seven kids.

They first lived in Terminal, Midland, TX where the couple's first son was born, then in 1950 moved to Grand Junction, CO, where in 1951 their daughter was born. The Tate's lived in CO until about 1962 when they returned to Big Spring, TX, where Oscar had lived prior. After all their children were grown, the Tates resided in Ballinger, TX & San Angelo, TX, where they are both buried.
