Born in Union Twp., Ernest was the son of Orley Orville and Ida (Hastings) Poling. He had four sisters: Ida Mae, Violet, Bernice, and Orpha and five brothers: Laurel, Carl, William, Roy, and Ward.

He married Katherine Spencer on September 11, 1928 and lived in Lenox, Ohio before moving the family to Rome and New Lyme, finally settling on his farm in Williamsfield. There, Ernest worked hard farming crops and later started in the dairy business.

He had five daughters: Edith, Helen, Florence, Marian, and Doris.

Andover - Ernest C. Poling, 79, 139 Chesnut St., formerly of Wiliiamsfield, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.

He was born Sept. 11, 1901, in VanWert County, the son of Orley Orville and Ida Heisting Poling.

A member of Williamsfield United Methodist Church, Poling was a retired farmer.

On Sept. 11, 1928, he married Katherine Spencer who died Jan. 30, 1974.

Survivors include four daughters, Helen Poling of Youngstown, Florence Armstrong of Mecca, Marian Friedrich of Lenox, and Doris Simon of Andover; two sisters, May and Violet in Michigan; two brothers, Carl of Clayton, MI, Laurel of Battle Creek, MI, and nine grandchildren. A daughter, Edith Poling, five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Baumgardner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday.
