J. Benson Cooper, 72 of 1355 Crestview, died Monday at Brownsville Medical Center.

A native of Henderson, Tex. he had been a Brownsville resident for 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brownsville, was active in church work and choir. He was a retired city sanitarian and a veteran of World War Two.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucyle T. Cooper of Brownsville, a son, Edward Cooper of Austin and a daughter, Frances Frazier of Brownsville.

Funeral services were to be held today at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Brother Bob Clements officiating with interment at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were to be Hank Posio, Jesse Sloss, Ran Stovall, Henry Lockwood, Phil Jones and Paul Cortez.

Friends of the family are making donations to the Tract Fund, c-o First Baptist Church, 555 E. Elizabeth, Brownsville.

Darling-Mouser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
