Bernard M. Helms, age 79 of Abbeville, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 19 in the Liberty Hill United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM in the church. Rev. Gary Carter, Rev. Debbie Cone, and Brother Luke Wicker will officiate. Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Helms was born on April 23, 1931 in Rochelle. He was son of the late Harvey A. Helms and Clara Mae Killiebrew Helms. He was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church and was a Mechanic at Griffin Lumber Company. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include: wife-Barbara Helms of Abbeville, son-Wayne Helms of Abbeville, step-son-Andrew VanHorn of Savannah, Michael VanHorn of Bluffton, S. C., step-daughters-Julia Nutt of Rochelle and Linda Brasher of Birmingham, Alabama, 10-grandchildren and 10-great-grandchildren.
