Roana Marilla Caraway was the daughter of Arabella (Willingham) and John Caraway. Her Death Certificate names her father as John Caraway but the informant did not know the name or birth place for her mother. She was in her parents household in 1860 and in her widowed mother's in 1870.

There is some question as to the correct year of birth for Roana. Her tombstone says 1860, her Death Certificate says she was born April 23, 1859 and the 1860 census shows her as 2 years old which would mean she was born about 1858.

It is unknown where her father died (between the census enumerations of 1860 and 1870) and where he is buried. Her mother is buried at Siloam Cemetery Gustine, Comanche County, Texas, USA.
