US Congressman. After graduating from Princeton University in 1806, he studied law and became a practicing attorney. He served in the War of 1812, was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, and served as high sheriff of Berkeley County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Elected as a Federalist to Congress from Virginia, Colston served a single term, from 1817 to 1819. He retired to this estate, "Honeywood", in Berkeley County.
