It was said she was remarkable for her beauty and amiability.
Susan was the oldest daughter of Rawleigh Thomas Colston (1749-1823) of Maidstone Manor, Berkeley County, Va. and Elizabeth Jacquelin Fisher Marshall (1756-1846), sister of John Marshall. Susan Colston Leigh was the niece of Chief Justice John Marshall. Her children were William (1814-1889), who married Mary White Colston; and Mary Susan Selden Leigh who married Conway Robinson
