The daughter of a well-bred, well-educated family of the Old South in Missouri, Neal (Paxton) Forsling, after her marriage to a lawyer failed, came with her 2 daughters to Casper, Wyoming, fell in love with Casper Mountain and began the rich but hard life on its south side. She met & married woodcutter, Jim Forsling, & they lived together in a cabin on the mountain year round.

In 1942, Jim Forsling was missing for two days - he had gone to Casper to sell wood and buy provisions - and his body was found frozen solid. Neal grieved but persevered, continuing to raise her daughters but no longer lived in the cabin in winters.

Forsling died in 1977 after a lifetime of looking after neighboring ranchers, grieving from the untimely death of her husband, painting and writing poetry, raising her two daughters, and inventing for the children stories of the spirits on Casper Mountain.

Neal Forsling gave 90 acres of her 640-acre homestead on Casper Mountain to the people of Natrona County forever as long as they would tell the tales of nature spirits - otherwise known as witches - forever at the annual Crimson Dawn Midsummer's Eve celebration.
