Glen G. "Butch" Gifford, 73, of Havre, Mont., an agricultural salesman and Army veteran, died of cancer Friday, September 21, 2007, at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Mont.

His memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church, 625 4th Ave. in Havre, Mont., on Saturday, September 29, at 11 a.m.

Glen G. "Butch" Gifford was born July 18, 1934, in Minot, N.D., to Ione (Hanson) and Olen D. Gifford. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, in 1953. From 1953 to 1956, Butch worked as a brakeman on freight and passenger trains on Soo Line Railroad.

He married Nancy Berg on June 1, 1956; she died in April 1999. He married Jean McIntosh in September 1999.

He was drafted into the Army in 1956 and served in Fort Riley, Kan., for three years as a dental technician before being honorably discharged in 1959.

He moved to Chester, Mont., and worked for his brother at O.D.'s Market, then managed Hingham Motors for three years. He became a farm equipment salesman for Marias Equipment for five years, then Foster Manufacturing in Madras, Ore., before going to work at Killion-Moore in Great Falls for 21 years. He delivered trucks for ITB in Brady until retiring in 2005.

Butch spent his entire life hunting, fishing and camping with his children and family. He enjoyed woodworking and built many beautiful pieces of furniture and wall decorations for all his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Gifford of Havre, Mont.; sons Thadd (Dar) Gifford of Great Falls, Mont., Bryan (Ruth) Gifford and Curtis (Dede) Gifford, both of Billings, Mont.; a daughter, Glenda (Joel) Clum of Great Falls, Mont.; his stepfamily, Gayle (Dennis) Keller, Chuck (Jaime) McIntosh and Mike McIntosh, all of Havre, Mont.; brothers Russell Gifford of Beverly Hills, Fla., and George Gifford of Sugarland, Texas; sisters Susan Brown of Chester and Carrie Harmon of Bellevue, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy; his parents; three brothers, Wally, Bud and O.D.; a sister, Myra Sitch; and a great-grandson.
