David Stalker was my paternal great grandfather who resided in 8 Commercial Street, Leith. Here he had his shop where he manufactured Mercantile Instruments.

He followed his father William Stalker b 1799 also in the Mercantile business. William was a sailmaker. Two other sons, Peter b 1821 and James b 1825 were also in this field.

David`s wife was Helen Archer b 1839, d 1915.

Their daughter Margaret Archer Stalker b 1879, d 1960, married James Allison Stewart, Senior, on 11th February, 1907 in the Queen`s Hotel, Commercial Street, Leith.

My father, James Allison Stewart was their only child, b 30 April, 1908, d 10 April, 1994.

With the exception of Margaret and her son James, both cremated, the others are interred in Warriston Cemetery.
