Clinebell, Elinor (Essex)
No event of recent years has caused so much sadness in the community as the death of Mrs. Elinor Clinebell, wife of Ray A. Clinebell, which occurred at St. Mary's Hospital, in Galesburg, last Friday evening.
Mrs. Clinebell had been in poor health for more than a year. About four weeks ago she was taken to the Galesburg Hospital by her brother, Dr. C. R. Essex for treatment. She returned home, but becoming worse, went back to the hospital on June 15th. She was not able to stand an operation until Wednesday of last week, when it was discovered that cancer of the intestines was the case of her illness.
Ray had been with his wife all the time, and the two children, Lela and Lyle were sent for Thursday. They were with their mother when she passed away Friday evening, about 8:30.
Undertaker William H. Wilkey went up to Galesburg that night and brought the body back to the undertaking parlor here, where it was prepared for burial.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 24th, at the Baptist Church in Glasford, conducted by Rev. J. L. Allison of the Copperas Creek U. B. Church. The singing was by a ladies' quartet, composed of Mesdames T. C. Brooks, J. I. Maple, Alva Wilson, and J. L. Allison, accompanied by Mrs. F. R. Lightbody. The large crowd of relatives and friends overflowing the church, and the abundance of beautiful floral offerings, from relatives, friends, church, Sunday school and grade school, attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held by the community.
Interment was in Lancaster Cemetery. The pall hearers were, Jesse Nuhn, Oral Parr, Otto McElhaney, Joy Wilson, Lloyd Bateman and Daniel Sill.
Elinor (Essex) Clinebell, daughter of Rev. Hiram Essex and Sarah (Watters) Essex, was born February 8, 1895 at Glasford, Illinois, and departed this life June 22, 1928, aged 33 years, 4 months, and 14 days. She had not been in good health for more than a year. A crisis in her condition came, and she was taken to the St. Mary's Hospital at Galesburg, Illinois where everything known to medical science was done to restore her health, but without avail. She bore her suffering with fortitude and patience.
Most of her early life was spent at London Mills, and Glasford, Illinois. She received her education in the grade schools, and the London Mills High School. At the age of 13 she became a member of the United Brethern Church at London Mills, Illinois. She was always deeply interested in the work of the church as well as in every other good cause. Her whole life was devoted to the service of others, and the loss of her kindly spirit and sympathetic nature will be keenly felt by her family and friends. It can in truth be said of her that she went about doing good.
On May 12, 1915 she was united in marriage with Ray Arthur Clinebell at Glasford, Illinois. To this union were born two children, Lela Elinor, age, 12, and Lyle Ray, aged 11 years. Her husband and children will cherish forever the memory of her life of deep devotion to them.
Besides her family she leaves her mother, Mrs. Sarah Essex of London Mills, Ill., seven brothers, and four sisters: Dr. C .R. Essex of Galesburg, Mrs. Floyd Fullmer, Mrs. Guy Olge, and Mrs. Floyd Payne of London Mills, Biram A. Essex of Bushnell, Dr. Hiram of Rochester, Minn., George of Good Hope, Ill., Mrs. Claude Davis of St. Augustine, Lester E. Essex of Ellisville, Dorance N Essex of Portland, Oregon, and Rev. Virgil C. Essex of Fisher, Illinois. She will be greatly missed by many other relatives and friends.
