"In 1863 he enlisted as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War from Cook County, Texas, as a ranger. He served under Commander Thomas Green. He fought aginst General Banks in the campaign thru Louisana and aginst Sabin Cross Roads and the fight at the Yellow Bayou. He received his discharge at Richmond, Texas, and later returned to Illinois."
