Aunt Bina Rice, daughter of Dexter Rices' was born in 1860 and moved with her family to Dixon County from Boyden, Iowa. She married Frank Griffith and moved to a farm on Turkey Creek north of Newcastle. Seven children were born to the couple. Leslie, of Omaha, Guy and Vern deceased, Gayle (Mrs. George Davis) Sturgis, South Dakota, Birdellla (Mrs. William Mitchell) Washington, Nettie (Mrs. Ed Haines) Ohio, and Evelyn also deceased.
They farmed on Turkey Creek and all the children went to Turkey Creek School. Uncle Frank and Aunt Bina and Evelyn moved into Newcastle in the late 30's. Many happy times were had at this household. Uncle Frank died shortly after they moved to town. Aunt Bina and Eva spent the rest of their time, making new friends and enjoying the old friends. Aunt Bina passed away in 1946 and Evelyn in 1967 and both were buried from the Congregational Church and laid to rest in the Newcastle Cemetery.
