Unfortunately, Clyde died very young at the age of 28 of appendicitis, leaving two young sons, Lewis Leavell Coats 4 years and Thomas Spearman Coats 2 years, under the care of her mother-in-law, 'Lovie' Jeffersonia Elizabeth Davidson Coats, to raise. Clyde and her family had been living in El Paso, Texas four months prior to her death on June 6, 1919.
