HOLTON Carol L. Monaghan, 83, of Holton, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Medicalodges Jackson County nursing home. Carol and his wife LaQuita lived and raised their family in Holton. He was born October 17, 1926 at Netawaka, the son of John and Dorothy Myers Monaghan.

Carol attended Clover Hill Grade School, north of Whiting, and graduated from Whiting High School in 1944.

He served from 1950 to 1952 with the U.S. Army in Germany. Carol was a lifelong John Deere mechanic, having worked at the Whiting Motor Company in Whiting, and Dannenberg Implement, Sourk Implement and Thompson Implement, all in Holton.

He enjoyed doing woodworking projects for family and friends and whenever anyone needed a helping hand, he was there. He was a member of Holton Memorial Post No. 1367 of the V.F.W.

Carol married LaQuita J. McKee on August 5, 1950 at Hiawatha. She preceded him in death on April 24, 1995.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Dolan, who died September 7, 1997, a daughter-in-law, Chris Monaghan, who died March 27, 2010, one brother, Lyle Monaghan, and two brothers-in-law, Lou Pollom and Harvey Behrnes.

Survivors include a son, Galen Monaghan, Holton; three brothers, Wayne Monaghan, Everest, Dale Monaghan, Topeka, and Daryl Monaghan, Hiawatha; three sisters, Maxine Pollom, Ottawa, Eudene Behrnes, Horton, and Illene Merz, Topeka; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16th, at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors by Holton Memorial Post No. 1367 of the V.F.W. will follow in the Holton Cemetery. Carol will lie in state at the funeral home where family and friends will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
