Philanthropist. Born in London of a Scottish father and an American mother, she moved to Canada after her marriage to her first husband, David Cohen. That marriage ended in dovorce and she married the billionaire Charles Bronfman (b. 1931), who had been the best man at her marriage to Mr. Cohen. Mr. Bronfman had been the chairman of Seagrams, the distillers, and the couple were involved in many works of philanthropy, including the Gift of New York, a charity which was founded after the attacks on the 11th. September 2001. In 2005, Mr. Bronfman inaugurated the Andrea M. Bronfman Prize for the Arts, known as the Andy, which is awarded every year to an Israeli decorative artist for outstanding work in ceramics, jewellery, textile, or glass. Unfortunately, the following year, Mrs. Bronfman was walking her dog near 65th. Street in Manhattan, when she was fatally injured by a hit-and-run driver. Among the mourners at her funeral, which took place on the 27th. January, were two former Prime Ministers of Israel, namely Ehud Olmert and Shimon Peres.
