"The Angel of Death has been among us the past week and the shadow of his presence has been felt.... Word was received here on Thursday of the death of Andrew Austin in the hospital at Minot, N.D., as the result of falling beneath the wheels of a train at Portal the day before. Mr. Austin left here only the week before with the intention of building a shanty on his claim in that vicinity and his sudden and violent death was a sad blow to his family and friends. The remains arrived here Saturday night and were buried Monday in Root Prairie cemetery."

"Andrew Austin, a Minnesota man, who had been looking up land in the vicinity of Portal [North Dakota] died last night at 6 o'clock at the county hospital from the effects of injuries sustained in an accident at Portal Tuesday. Austin stepped in front of a Soo passenger train and was run over. His right leg was severed below the knee and his left foot was badly injured. He was otherwise badly bruised and sustained serious internal injury. He was attended at the county hospital yesterday by Dr. White. The remains are being prepared for burial at McJannett's and will be shipped to his home in Minnesota today."
