LEXINGTON -- Dorsey Dale Brown passed away July 15, 2005, in Ithaca, N.Y.

Dorsey was the son of Everett Brown and Edna Jenkins born in Lexington on Aug. 18, 1920. He lived on the family farm until World War II, when he served in the Army Air Corps as a radio technician in Alaska. After the war he attended Illinois State Normal where he met his wife, Frances Berry.

Dorsey was trained as a mathematics teacher. He taught high school math and at Scott Air Force Base before joining IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 1956. He was a systems analyst for IBM for 27 years.

Dorsey and Frances raised four sons in Poughkeepsie and Boca Raton, Fla. After retiring, Dorsey returned to Illinois. In his later years he had an apartment in the big house in Danby, N.Y., with son, Norman Brown and family. He returned to Illinois to help with the harvest on the family farm of five generations-even in his 80s.

He was an avid gardener. He loved his books and he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up.

He is survived by his sons, Donald Dean (Dea Ramey) Brown of Watertown, Mass.; Norman (Lucy Gold) Brown of Ithaca, N.Y.; David Brown of Mobile, Ala.; and Scott (Suzanne Bertola) Brown of Amherst, N.Y. He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Shirley) Brown ; brother-in-law, Donald Dillow; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Marie Dillow and Mary; a brother, Wayne; and second wife, Maxine Vawter.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Lexington.
