The Prisbreys had a farm and cattle ranch south of town where they spent much of the year. They also had a home in town. Katherine could ride a horse bareback, like no other. Reed Prisbrey and wife, Doneva had a ranch in the fields south of New Harmony and had horses, especially remember one named Redwing that was later my cousins-a sorrel. Kathryn was a good rider and may have ridden to school from the ranch which was located on a creek (Ash Creek).
Later the family bought a lot in town and the old pioneer church in 1953 and converted it into a two story house that is still standing.
Kathryn had a scar on her chin where she had been kicked by a horse when very young. The word around town was that her 4th husband was jealous of her and horse riding-not clear whether it was her ability or the time she spent doing it. I believe that she went to ride her horse at their home in Enoch, Utah and he went out and shot her there.
