Carl Henry Fell, 300 Third Ave. N. E., died Saturday, Dec. 31 at 11 p. m. at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Death was due to infirmities of old age. During the past few months he had been losing strength and during the last 10 days of his life he manifested very little interest in this life.
C. Henry Fell was born in Iosco township, March 8, 1865. His father and mother, from Whittenberg and Preussen, Germany, respectively, were pioneers in this county. His education was in the rural schools of Iosco.
Among the constructive hobbies of his life were gardening, fruit growing and grafting and the studying of a sound economic system. As a horticulturalist he was well read although he had never attended an agricultural school.
In the words of his pastor "his chief concern in these last years as he looked out upon American life, was the tendency in the government of our nation to provide leisure hours as a substitute for constructive labor and gainful occupations. He held firmly to that fundamental principle given in the Bible. "By the sweat of your brow you shall eat your bread," which principle he fulfilled until a few months before he died.
He was united in marriage with Hannah Marie Wolter on May 31, 1894. They moved on a farm in Iosco where both joined the Evangelical church.
They continued farming until 1931 when they moved to Waseca to speed their retiring years. In 1944, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Fell died January 26, 1949. He leaves seven children. They are Mrs. Clarence Marzahn, Waseca; Mrs. Oscar (Verna) Schwanke, Waterville; Mrs. Fred (Ethel) Priebe and Mrs. (Ruth) Miller, Waseca; Melvin Fell, Roboboth Beach, Delaware; Arnold and Walter, Waseca. There are nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services are being held at Salem Evangelical United Brethren church this Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Ezra Budke will conduct the service.
Pall bearers are Carl Rykhus, Frank Papke, Fred Kottke, Harvey Johnston, Wm. Roesler and Ben Roesler.
