LAST OF PIONEER FAMILY IS DEAD
Archie Thompson, 85 Years Old, Dies in Rockford This Morning
The last of a family of ten children, early settlers in Illinois, Archie Thompson, 85 years old, died this morning at Henry and Charles McCulloch, west of Rockford. He had been in failing health since last summer.
Mr. Thompson was born in Argyleshire, Scotland, March 27, 1836, and came to the United States with his mother, brothers and sisters, in July, 1854. The family settled in Caledonia where Mr. Thompson lived until two years ago, when he came to Rockford to make his home with nieces and nephews here.
He was a loyal member of Middle Creek church.
He leaves three nephews in Caledonia, John W., Robert and John A. Thompson, beside a number of nephews here, George Falconer and the McCulloch brothers, Mrs. Peter Ralston and Miss Nellie Thompson are nieces.
Rev. W. H. Fulton of First Presbyterian church will conduct funeral services Monday at 1 pm. at the McCulloch home, where Mr. Thompson had lived for more than a year. Burial will be in Middle Creek cemetery.
