Isaiah Strawn was born in Bucks county, Pennsylvania to Quaker parents, on Oct 28th, 1758. Though his parents opposed their son enlisting in the revolutionary war, Isaiah, at the age of 19 enlisted, serving in the transportation line. At the battle of Germantown, he rushed into battle, seizing the musket of a fallen soldier and neighbor. Soon after he was wounded in the left leg, with the shot lodging in his foot. He never permitted them to remove it, carrying the lead shot in his foot for 64 years. After the war, he moved with his family to Putnam county, Illinois where he lived until his death. In Aug 1781 he married, Rachel Reed, in Pennsylvania
