My Memory -
Rudolf had 10 years of schooling going by the census records. His occupation was a Farmer but Death Certificate states he was a Carpenter. When his wife passed away in 1981, he sold his farm and moved in with his daughter Mary Meyer and her husband Johnnie in Pearland Texas. I remember that old farmhouse too and all the land he owned which now has houses built on it. As you walk in the back door, the very small kitchen which had a refrigerator, a stove, and a table and two chairs. It also had one sink and a few cabinets. The kitchen door went straight into the bedroom where they had a feather bed. But to get to the small bathroom though, you had to walk around the bed. If you were to walk in the front door, it would lead you to a small hallway to the bedroom. And that was it - a kitchen, bedroom, and a bathroom. Guess that is all we really need.

My grandmother fussed constantly about Rudolf odor though. He loved to eat garlic and had to have it on all his foods. She would always say that he was going to outlive us all. Johnnie, my grandpa passed away in 1987, leaving my grandmother to attend for her father's needs until his death in 1994. He was a dirty old man, just to say in laughter. He liked to grab or hit ladies' bottoms or buttock, but he was a quiet man sitting in his rocking chair made from wood. After his passing, my grandmother had told me that he would often say that he wanted to go home. Home being where his wife was in heaven. He missed her dearly. However, my grandmother had told me that when she was a child that he wasn't a genuinely nice man. He drank a lot which lead him to mistreat his wife and kids. I guess so much so that no other kids wanted to take care of him, so my grandmother stepped up for the challenge. Nevertheless, he lived to be 95 years old. A full life which he probably thought of throughout his old age.

Even though his tombstone has Rudolf A Jalufka, his Texas Death Index has Rudolph Isidor Jalufka, which is his real name according to my grandmother, Mary (Jalufka) Meyer.
