Dr J H Beal
Funeral services for Dr James Hartley Beal, 83, well known and former Uhrichsville resident, were held yesterday at Fort Walton, Fla, where he had made his home in recent years. Dr Beal, an outstanding figure in American pharmacy, died Thursday.
He was founder of the Scio College of Pharmacy in 1887, and served as president and secretary of the American Pharmaceutical Association, and was the first editor of its journal, and was of great assistance in establishing the National Drug Trade Conference.
Born in New Philadelphia, he was educated in this state, having gone to Pittsburgh in 1902 to teach pharmacy. Dr Beal was married to the former Fannie Snyder Young, Uhrichsville, who survives him. Other survivors are one son, Dr G D Beal, assistant director of Mellon Institute, one daughter, Mrs Nanni Easter Starkey, and four grandchildren.
Burial was made in Florida.
