A few years after George was born, the family moved to Grindstone, Penobscot County, Maine, and later to East Millinocket, Maine. George married Laura Whirty at the Congregational Church in Mattawamkeag, Maine, in 1929. He worked for the Great Northern Paper Company as a stationary fireman until his retirement. He died of a heart attack at his home in East Millinocket.
